Beth Jackson (She/Her)
Beth’s career in Outdoor Education started when she participated in a 30-day canoeing trip for a college orientation program, after the trip, she learned the skills needed to become a student instructor. Now, with nearly two decades of experience working in Outdoor Education, she has worked as a field instructor, semester programs instructor, course director, and staff trainer. She spent many summer and fall seasons leading canoeing and backpacking expeditions in Maine with Hurricane Island Outward Bound. She has also led semester-length gap year programs with international Outward Bound Schools in Costa Rica, Panama, and Brazil. In addition, Beth has taught environmental education, led conservation crews, and led expeditions for private high schools. Beth has been able to learn and teach a variety of outdoor skills, but her favorites are expedition canoeing, desert backpacking, sailing, and canyoneering. When not on a trip Beth likes to garden, work on boats, and play on the river.
Beth is an ACA Whitewater Canoeing Instructor, solo and tandem, Wilderness First Responder, Climbing Wall Instructor, and trained in Swift Water Rescue. Beth holds an M.A. in Biology from Miami University’s Project Dragonfly Global Field program, where she studied Conservation Biology in international locations. While at University of Maine, she earned a Graduate Certificate in Interdisciplinary Climate Science, and she has a B.A. in Studio Art from Earlham College.
