Equipment Details

Check your gear! It is best practice to check all of your gear before any outdoor adventure!

  • Tents – Matching tent, fly, and poles
  • Inflatable SUPs – Check contents list in SUP bag
  • Items with Zippers – Functioning and smooth zippers
  • Check items with BUCKLES and STRAPS!
  • Check for Fit – Shoes, PFDs, Wetsuits, Booties, etc.

  • Rooftop Kits– Car rooftop kits for vehicles without roof racks to transport canoes and kayaks. Kits include foam blocks and tie-down straps.
  • Anchors– Small boat anchors are great for paddle board yoga or used for fishing in canoes and kayaks.

  • Classic XC Skis, Kids: Fischer Spirit Crown Junior with Fischer NNN bindings.  Sizes: 110, 120, 130, 140, 150
  • Classic XC Ski Boots, Kids: Alpina T Kid Jr. NNN boots. Sizes: EURO 29-35

  • Crampons: Petzl Vasak (or similar) horizontal points, for general mountaineering. We do not rent front-point crampons for ice climbing.
  • Mountaineering Ice Axe: Classic mountaineering axes in a variety of sizes. We do not rent ice tools for ice climbing. 
  • Double Plastic Mountaineering Boots: Double plastic boots, brands, and sizing vary. Men’s sizes 4.5-13.
  • Single Mountaineering Boots: Scarpa Mont Blanc Pro GTX. Limited Sizing: EURO 37, 40, 42, 43, 44, 46, 47
  • Adult & Youth Snowshoes: Redfeather. Size: Youth (17”), S (22”), M (25”), L (30”)
  • Alpine Snoeshows: Redfeather Alpine snowshoes with heel riser bars.  Sizes: 25”, 30”, 35”
  • Winter -20 degree Sleeping Bags: Mountain Hardwear Lamina -20. Sizes: Long, Short. 
  • Sleeping Bags: 0 and 20 degree Kelty mummy style. Sizes: Regular, Long
  • 3-season tents: Kelty Basecamp 2, 4, and 6-person
  • Sleeping pads: Z-Rests & Thermarests, closed-cell foam pads
  • Backpacking Backpacks: Kelty 85L (best for winter & extended trips), Kelty 65L (best for summer, or overnights)

3-Hour Ski Packages

  • Ski Packages are available during weekday open hours when ski conditions on campus trails or Caribou Bog are good. Kids and adult packages are availble.
  • Packages are walk in only; no advanced reservations allowed for 3 hour ski packages.

Any large groups need to contact beth.jackson@maine.edu. Large group rentals are subject to availability. Large groups are considered to be 5+ people. Advanced reservation recommended.

Yes, subject to availability. You must call to extend a rental. You’ll be charged an additional daily fee.

Just give us a call, and we will cancel your reservation free of charge.

Most people reserve a couple of days to a couple of weeks in advance. However, there are certain times of the year when we have restrictions on how early you can reserve items.

We do not rent canoe, kayak, or SUP trailers.

Yes! We offer group paddleboard, canoe, or recreational kayak programs. To request a program, visit our facilities page and fill out our program request form. These programs are generally limited to school groups and university groups.

For the 2025/2026 academic year UMSG is sponsoring the cost of all undergraduate student gear rentals! This does not apply to student clubs. Individual students can rent gear for themselves. All late fees and damage fees must be paid by the individual student; UMSG is not responsible for late/lost/damaged fees. Additional permiters are posted at Maine Bound.
