Meet the Kerr Lab

Hannah Jacobs
Master’s Graduate Student
hannah.e.jacobs@maine.edu
Hannah joined the Kerr lab in the fall of 2025. She is broadly interested in adaptive stock assessment frameworks, management strategy evaluation, the integration of ecological variability and local knowledge into assessment models. Her current research for her master’s thesis focuses on working with dynamic reference points for data-limited and model-resistant stocks along with evaluating empirical approaches in a changing ecosystem.
Prior to the University of Maine, Hannah graduated with her B.S. in Marine Biology from the University of New England (2024). During her time there, she did research on plankton identification in the Saco River Estuary/Biddeford Pool using the FlowCam, which uses high-resolution imaging to identify and quantify plankton species. After undergrad, she continued her education at the Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science in Miami. She received her MPS with high honors in Fisheries Management and Conservation (2025). During that time, Hannah interned at the NOAA Southeast Fisheries Science Center and her work focused on using the Stock Assessment Continuum Tool to build bridge models for US Caribbean spiny lobster.
