Course Description

This is a workshop-style class where students can develop and improve their oral communication skills and build on the confidence needed  for effective interaction in academic as well as social settings in English-speaking environments. Activities will include: participating in and leading discussions on various topics of interest, group projects and presentations, and individualized audio/video assignments to address discrete pronunciation topics.  Participation in class discussions, activities, role-plays, and etc. both in and outside of class is necessary. Speaking tasks will be integrated with content, vocabulary, and grammar from various materials.

Course Goals

Participants will fine-tune communication skills such as pronunciation, rhythm, and intonation—while building the skills needed to lead discussions, deliver formal presentations, or communicate confidently in social settings. Through targeted practice, they will learn to self-correct errors in grammar and vocabulary, navigate different cultural and linguistic registers, and communicate ideas clearly and persuasively in any academic setting.
