Student engagement is at all time lows and artificial intelligence is creating existential questions about what it means to teach and learn. Award-winning educator Michael Hernandez helps us navigate these challenges by creating a human-centered learning experience that equips our students to be productive citizens in an ever-changing world.
Plenary Outcomes
Participants will examine the challenges faced by educators of every level when trying to create meaningful learning experiences for their students. We’ll discover the personal and systemic obstacles to innovation, and see examples of how to overcome these challenges in your own classroom. Backed by research and classroom-tested case studies, this session will inspire and empower teachers to make simple but powerful changes to bring purpose, integrity, and joy back to the classroom.

Michael is an award-winning teacher, author, and speaker in Los Angeles whose work focuses on digital and civic literacy, authentic assessment, and innovative teaching strategies. His book, Storytelling With Purpose: Digital Projects to Ignite Student Curiosity (ISTE) helps educators increase student engagement, and his course, Uncheatable Assessments, shows how to design assignments that foster academic integrity in the age of AI.
Michael leads workshops and speaks at conferences in the U.S. and abroad, and is a National Geographic Grosvneor Teacher Fellow, Apple Distinguished Educator, and PBS Digital Innovator.
