AI Workout: Strengthening Human-Centered Classrooms with AI

Plenary Description

Kick off the school year with this energizing, hands-on virtual professional development designed to help educators build confidence, clarity, and ethical alignment around artificial intelligence. In this interactive “AI workout,” participants will explore what AI is (and isn’t), apply the HUMAN framework (Halt, Utilize, Monitor, Authenticate, Note), and Learn about the AI Assessment Scale to maintain high cognitive demand while supporting student learning. Participants will engage in interactive learning that builds practical strategies, clarifies expectations, and strengthens thoughtful decision-making around AI. Educators will leave with renewed confidence and a path for ensuring AI enhances — not replaces — human thinking and authentic learning.

Nicole Davis is the Emerging Technology Specialist for the Maine Department of Education, where she leads statewide professional learning focused on the ethical and effective integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in education. With over 20 years of experience as a math and science educator in both Maine and North Carolina, she brings a strong foundation in teaching, learning, and curriculum design. Nicole is the architect of Maine’s AI Guidance Toolkit and co-author of the forthcoming EduProtocols: AI Literacy Edition, supporting ethical, responsible, and human-centered AI integration in K–12 classrooms. She holds a Master’s degree in Education with a focus on curriculum design and is passionate about helping educators use technology to empower creativity and critical thinking.. She lives in Damariscotta with her dog, Luna.
