Began Conservation Science NRT Program Fall 2021
While the wildlife ecology program brought me to UMaine, I was attracted to the NRT because I saw its potential to expand my knowledge and skills regarding the overlap between traditional wildlife management and social science on a local community scale. To be a good biologist and ultimately leave the world a better place than how we found it, I believe that we as conservation scientists must work to improve trust, communication, and decision making with the general public.
I received a BS in Natural Resources and the Environment from the University of Connecticut with a focus on wildlife conservation. Before UMaine, I spent several seasons working for various wildlife projects, two years as a Peace Corps environmental conservation volunteer, and then worked in game species management for a state agency. For my graduate degree, I am researching the effects of winter ticks and climate change on Maine moose. I hope that the results of my research will inform both wildlife and forestry management decisions regarding moose conservation.
