Skyler Morse

Skyler Morse is a Biomedical Engineering PhD student through the University of Maine GSBSE. He is from South Portland, Maine, and graduated from the University of Maine’s Biomedical Engineering undergraduate program in May 2025 with minors in Anthropology, Bioinstrumentation, and Mathematics. During his undergraduate career, he participated in several research projects as a member of the CompuMAINE laboratory. His most notable project involved the wavelet-based segmentation of glioblastoma using the 2D wavelet transform modulus maxima segmentation method, for which he won two research-based awards through the Center for Undergraduate Research here on campus. Glioblastoma is one of the most tragic forms of brain cancer, and he enjoyed working on this project in hopes of one day improving patient prognosis through identification. His research in the lab has involved coding in R, ImageJ/FIJI, Python, and the TCL-based in-house software, Xsmurf. Outside of the lab, he loves to listen to music and work outside on warm and sunny days.
