Chris Ormerod

Dr. Christopher Ormerod was a fixed-term assistant professor of mathematics in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. He obtained a PhD in Applied Mathematics from Sydney University after completing a Bachelor of Science (with Honors) in Pure Mathematics. The research of Dr. Ormerod primarily concerns the theory and applications of difference equations. His projects concern integrable difference equations, discrete analogues of wave equations, special functions and orthogonal polynomials, tropical algebraic geometry, algorithms, scientific computing, high performance computing and network theory with applications to systems biology. As a member of CompuMAINE, Dr. Ormerod used machine learning techniques to analyze and model biological networks. These have included the connectomes for the neural networks of the C. elegans and mesoscale mouse brain and the protein-protein interaction networks for fat-storage and mitochondria in yeast. He currently holds the position of principal mathematician with the American Institutes for Research in Washington, DC.
