Shawn Collins

Shawn is a Biomedical Engineering graduate student in the CompuMAINE lab. He grew up in Skowhegan, Maine and holds an MBA from Walden University. Before coming to UMaine, Shawn served 8 years in the U.S. Navy, including a forward deployment to Yokosuka, Japan. His research focuses on computational histopathology and biomechanical sensing, including quantitative nuclear morphology analysis of lung adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma using digital pathology pipelines and deep learning classification of whole slide images. His goal is to advance quantitative methods in cancer research while bridging engineering and clinical application. The majority of Shawn’s work is coded in Python, C, C++, LabVIEW, R, Fiji, QuPath, MATLAB, and SQL. In his free time, Shawn enjoys spending time with his family and cultivating fungi and plants.
