LSOG Management Workshop

May 16 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join us for a 2-hour virtual workshop on how to manage for LSOG forest in a commercial forest landscape. Part of the goal is to help us help you. We’ve learned a lot by spending quality time in the field with you in the last two years. We’re synthesizing what we’ve learned, both from you and our research. We look forward to discussing it all on May 16.

Workshop topics will include:

Why does LSOG matter? What are the ecological reasons to conserve LSOG in the working forest landscape?

How do you know LSOG when you see it? We’ll introduce a new rapid-assessment-protocol that you can do in 15 minutes in the field.

LSOG- from the stand to individual trees. LSOG ecological value derives mainly from big old trees, sometimes in a stand, and sometimes in riparian buffers, or even isolated trees in a regeneration harvest.

Ways you can manage for LSOG in a working forest- We will review a “menu” of ways you could manage for LSOG in a working forest landscape, from individual tree retention, to patch retention, to riparian buffers, and stand-scaled maintenance and restoration of LSOG characteristics. Something for everyone!
