Valerie Herbert, DNP, RN, CNE
Dr. Valerie Herbert is an Associate Professor at the University of Maine, with 17+ years of critical care nursing experience and +15 years teaching in the undergraduate and graduate programs. Her research and scholarship have focused on three main areas: (a) transition to practice for new undergraduate nursing students; (b) simulation teaching strategies in undergraduate and graduate education; and (c) innovative use of technology in nursing education. These creative works have resulted in multiple grants, and several published articles. Dr. Herbert’s innovative designs included developing and integrating simulation and technology teaching strategies across nursing programs, and developing an Augmented Reality (AR) app for Heart Failure. Her scholarship is grounded in Rogers’ Diffusion of Innovation Theory, examining the spread of new ideas within healthcare in adopting novel approaches within nursing education and clinical practice.
