The Madelyn E. and Albert D. Conley Speech, Language and Hearing Center
The Madelyn E. and Albert D. Conley Speech, Language, and Hearing Center (CSLHC), located in Dunn Hall on the University of Maine campus in Orono, is a center for clinical education and research as well as a facility for comprehensive speech, language, literacy, and hearing services. Both the Speech-Language Clinic and the Audiology Clinic provide services for individuals across the lifespan. The Speech-Language Clinic offers both evaluation and treatment services in person and via telepractice as well as outreach services to preschools, public/private schools, hospitals and group homes. The Audiology Clinic offers comprehensive services including hearing testing, hearing aid evaluations and hearing aid fittings.
Graduate students in Communication Sciences and Disorders complete supervised clinical practicum experiences at CSLHC.
Audiology Clinic and Services
The CSLHC Audiology Clinic serves clients across the lifespan from infants to older adults. Many clients are referred by a physician, school nurse, or speech-language pathologist, but may self-refer. Amy E. Booth, MA, CCC-A is the audiologist on staff who provides audiological services as well as clinical training for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in one of the programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Audiology services
We provide comprehensive services including:
- Hearing screenings
- Full audiological evaluations including assessment of middle ear function
- Recommendations and suggestions for communication improvement, hearing aid options and assistive listening devices
- Hearing aid services
- Hearing aid dispensing, evaluation and fitting, modification and repair, and consultation
- Options for conventional hearing aids, multimemory hearing aids and digital/programmable aids
Speech-Language Clinic and Services
The CSLHC Speech-Language Clinic serves clients across the lifespan from infants to older adults. Diagnostic and therapeutic services are provided in person or via telepractice by CSD students under faculty supervision or by faculty directly. Speech, Language, Swallowing Services
We provide comprehensive evaluation, treatment, and support services for:
- Acquired brain injury communication challenges
- Aphasia
- Articulation and speech sound difficulties
- Assistive technology needs
- Autism spectrum communication
- Cognitive-communication difficulties
- Fluency challenges (for example, stuttering or cluttering)
- Language difficulties
- Literacy and reading challenges
- Neurological communication difficulties
- Preschool speech and language development
- Pronunciation and communication skills for English as a Second Language (ESL) speakers
- Swallowing difficulties (dysphagia)
- Voice challenges
