Post-Application & Interview Guidelines
Timeline
Interviews typically take place in February. Candidates invited for interview are notified in mid-late January and early February. Occasionally, another round of interviews may be held later in the semester.
Successful candidates are typically notified between February and March and have until April 15th, as per the Council of University Directors of Clinical Training (CUDCP) guidelines, to formally accept or reject the offer. Candidates may also be offered admission during April and May, as spots become available. Unsuccessful candidates are notified by letter from the Graduate School in late spring.
Interview Weekend
Interviewees usually arrive on the Saturday or Sunday before their interview and leave on Monday or Tuesday. On the Sunday night before the interview, interviewees, faculty, and current graduate students gather at a faculty member’s house for a potluck dinner/meet-and-greet, which allows the interviewees the opportunity to meet members of the program in an informal setting prior to interview day.
Interview Day
Interviews are held on Mondays and last the full day. Candidates meet with the Director of Clinical Training (DCT) in the morning and are provided an itinerary for the day. Candidates then meet with individual faculty members and graduate students for individual half-hour or hour-long interviews throughout the day.
Interviewees are provided with breakfast and lunch. During lunch, interviewees meet with all current graduate students and are offered the opportunity to ask further questions.
Following lunch, interviewees attend a weekly case conference presentation in which an upper-year student presents information on a client they are currently seeing. The presenter provides questions for discussion and current students and faculty provide feedback. Following case conference, students are taken on a tour of the university and Psychological Services Center.
Traveling to Orono
The University of Maine is located in Orono, Maine, approximately eight miles north of Bangor, Maine.
Candidates make their own travel arrangements. Many closer applicants choose to drive (both Bangor and Orono are accessible off the I-95).
For those traveling by plane, Bangor International Airport (BGR) is located approximately 10 minutes from the university. Additionally, individuals may find Portland International Jetport (PWM; located in Portland, ME; 2 hours away) and Logan Airport (BOS; Boston, MA; 4 hours away) affordable options.
For those traveling into Portland or Boston, round-trip and one-way bus service to Bangor and Orono are available via Greyhound and Concord Trailways.

Where to Stay
Interviewees are offered accommodation with current graduate students free of change, or on the university campus for a low cost option during the duration of their stay.
