About eac

Several people sit together around a round table. Food is spread out in front of each person. The person in the left foreground wearing a white shirt holds the camera overhead, pointed down at the table, to get the image.

History and Governance

EAC incorporated formally in late 2024 as a way to recognize that two previously-formed groups, the Classified Employee Advisory Council (CEAC) and Professional Employee Advisory Council (PEAC), had much in common and could benefit from working together.

The EAC is not a collective bargaining entity, and participation is voluntary. EAC membership eligibility criteria include all hourly (“classified”) and salaried (“professional”) employees associated with the Orono and Machias campuses, regardless of whether their position is represented or non-represented.

In addition to serving as a group representing the needs and concerns of UMaine staff to administration, EAC has hosted many opportunities for staff to socialize, celebrate, and learn. Learn more on our Events, Professional Development, and Employee Awards pages.
