FAQs

Travel Study courses are short-term, faculty-led courses that allow you to fit travel into your academic experience without conflicting with your academic schedule. With Travel Study courses, you’ll spend a small amount of time in a traditional classroom environment followed by the opportunity to travel domestically or internationally with a group of students with similar interests.

Travel Study courses link real world experiences with other cultures and connect experiential education to the traditional classroom curriculum. Travel study courses are not “vacations for credit.” Therefore, students should abide by the University of Maine’s code of conduct, the course syllabus, and the local policies, customs, and laws of the travel destination.

Travel Study is not study abroad. Some courses travel abroad, some are local to Maine, and others travel out of state. Travel Study is faculty-led; it involves a group and is built around a specific course topic or fieldwork.
