Course Description: This three-week Faculty-Led Program provides students with a broad international perspective on how other cultures deal with sexual and reproductive health issues. Special lectures, field trips, and on-site briefings will provide the opportunity for students to question assumptions about culture and sexuality, and to learn from societies that have different solutions to similar problems.

Course Description: This travel study course will focus on a range of professional and practical skills, including global impact/local relevance research, proposal development, science planning and logistics, risk assessment and mitigation, safety, group dynamics and collaboration, field-based and remote observations, cultural knowledge, and science communication.

Course Description: This course will introduce students to global health concepts and explore the global burden of diseases, social and environmental determinants of health, implications of migration, travel and displacement, and globalization of health and healthcare. Students will learn about health disparities in underserved countries. The meaning of global citizenship and the nurse’s role as an advocate for human rights will be explored.

Course Description: This course encourages students to use French actively as a natural part of daily life and to develop a heightened appreciation for Québec culture, society, and history. We will be visiting important cultural sites throughout the region, including – but not limited to – the Musée national des beaux-arts, Musée de la civilisation, l’Assemblée nationale du Québec, a visit to the Wendake indigenous site of the Huron-Wendat Nation and on l’Île d’Orléans. Guest speakers will be featured throughout the trip to give an authentic perspective and experience to the material discussed in class.

Course Description: This three-week summer course will examine Portugal’s innovative, alternative approach to substance use. Students will learn firsthand from those involved in this bold experiment, including federal law enforcement, public health, public policy, criminal justice, and mobile outreach teams. In addition, students will experience one of the most stunning, culturally rich, and affordable capitals in Europe.

Course Description: This special topic course in social psychology will focus on persuasion and social influence. Students will begin their coursework online, followed by two weeks of travel. Students will spend three days in Salerno, Italy, then move on to the island of Ischia for 10 days and a final day in Naples before returning to the U.S. A volcanic island, Ischia, is renowned for its hot springs and thermal baths. Boat tours, hiking, yoga, meditation, and multiple excursions are integral to the experience.

Course Description: The Field Studies Curriculum explores subarctic ecological and geophysical processes, glaciology, system modeling, and land use/natural resource management. Local narratives and stories are an important part of the course, adding to our annual compilation of selected academic readings. Climate change’s impacts on local landscapes and social-ecological systems, as well as regional climate adaptation, are unifying themes.

This 1-credit course provides students with hands-on experience in interdisciplinary environmental science focused on the Gulf of Maine. Students from diverse academic backgrounds including biology, earth science, engineering, anthropology, and art will collaborate as a research team to design and conduct studies addressing environmental, ecological, and societal challenges. A key focus of the course is environmental monitoring, where students will learn techniques for tracking environmental changes over time. The course features a field-based component, where students will collect data aboard a research vessel. Students will gain experience in project planning, field data collection, data analysis, and science communication. Final research findings will be synthesized into a report and shared through an outreach publication or presentation. Due to the small size of the class (5-10 students), meeting times will be arranged based on student and instructor availability. This course prepares students for collaborative scientific inquiry while developing fundamental skills in field-based environmental research and monitoring. Prerequisites:
