ANT 477: Field Research in Archaeology
Ancient cities and landscapes in northern Dalmatia, Croatia

Course Description: Experience the perfect balance of Study Abroad, Travel Study, and an Archaeological Field Program in a Mediterranean environment! This 30-day course will be based in the 3000-year-old Croatian city of Zadar along the Adriatic coast and centered on the nearby archaeological site of Nadin. Students of the course will gain a practical experience in archaeology and an understanding of its application to contemporary issues of urbanization, landscape change, and climate. The course offers the added element of a truly international experience, where students will work in the field alongside Croatian archaeology students from the University of Zadar, live and culturally interact within contemporary Croatian cities and towns, and visit a number of cultural heritage sites and Mediterranean landscapes relevant to the course. Although beneficial, prior experience in archaeology is not required, nor is familiarity with Croatian language and culture.

BIO 309: Sustainability on the Front Lines of Climate Change
Eleuthera Island, The Bahamas

Course Description: The sustainable management of ecosystems is essential for the long-term preservation of biological and cultural natural resources. Today, tropical and subtropical countries are experiencing a variety of unique environmental challenges, all compounded by the effects of global climate change, including loss of biological diversity, invasive species, food insecurity and freshwater scarcity, soaring energy production and storage costs, and accumulation of waste. The scientific solutions to these intractable problems lie in interdisciplinary research efforts. This course examines real-world sustainability and conservation challenges and solutions in an ecosystem under stress due to global climate change.

CHF 404: Human Sexuality in Europe
London, England, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and Stockholm, Sweden

Course Description: This three-week travel study program provides students with a broad international perspective on how other cultures deal with sexual and reproductive health issues. We will visit sites in London, England, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and Stockholm, Sweden and compare how these countries deal with issues such as teen pregnancy, contraception, abortion, sexuality education, and public policy issues related to HIV/AIDS, sexual orientation and prostitution. Special lectures, field trips and on-site briefings will provide the opportunity for students to question assumptions about culture and sexuality, and to learn from societies that have different solutions to similar problems.

CHF 404: Early Childhood Teaching Practicum in Isla Mujeres, Mexico
Isla Mujeres, Mexico

Course Description: During this travel study course students will support and teach English language education in early childhood elementary classrooms (Pre-K and K) on the island of Isla Mujeres, Mexico. This teaching practicum is designed to examine the nature, role, purposes and curriculum of early childhood education on Isla Mujeres. This course will challenge you to discover your values and beliefs as they relate to education, and will invite you to make a contribution to the educational life of young children.

INT 489: Experiences in Culture, Healthcare and Business in Germany
Stuttgart, Germany

Course Description: It’s been said that the best way to understand a different culture is to immerse yourself in it. This interdisciplinary travel study course will focus on the cultural and economic influences on life and business in Germany as compared to the United States. The course is offered in partnership with Aalen University in Stuttgart, Germany. Students will get the opportunity to visit a key hospital to discuss healthcare, the Carl Zeiss Oberkochen to discuss developing optical solutions for the public and also automobile producers BMW Munich and Porsche Zuffenhausen to examine different approaches to automaking. In addition, students will have the opportunity to visit cultural and historical spots in the region such as Dachau and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Roman Limes. During the spring semester we will hold four, two-hour meetings to go over assigned reading on business and culture in Germany to prepare for our trip.

INT 495: Experiencing Incan History and Architecture in the Present
Cusco, Peru

Course Description: Have you ever wanted to visit Peru or tour some of the famous Incan ruins such as the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as Machu Picchu? Register for this travel study opportunity to visit Peru and learn Incan history. During the spring semester we will hold four, two-hour meetings to go over assigned reading on Incan history to prepare for our trip.
