Building and Office &#8211; work with Rena Carey<\/h3>\n<p>Some exterior doors and computer labs require MaineCard access which should be obtained from Mark Austin in room 208. \u00a0To obtain office keys or lab keys, students must complete a sign-out card for each key. \u00a0Cards can be obtained from Rena in Room 246. \u00a0Only the department chair (or designee) can approve and sign for graduate office keys. \u00a0The student&#8217;s faculty advisor can sign for general area keys. \u00a0Only owners of an office or lab may sign for those room keys. \u00a0Loss of keys should be reported immediately to Campus Police, the student&#8217;s advisor, and Rena Carey. \u00a0When you graduate or leave the program, all keys must be returned in person.<\/p>\n<h3>2. Pole Barn and Deer Pen Day Use &#8211; work with Molly Langlais-Parker or Katherine Goodine<\/h3>\n<p>If you require access to the Pole Barn or the Deer Pen, there are keys available from Molly or Katherine in Room 210 that you can borrow. If needed, your advisor may grant you permission to obtain your own key. Please see Rena to obtain a key sign-out card and keys.<\/p>\n<h2>Mailboxes<\/h2>\n<p>Each graduate student is provided with a box located in the Photocopier Room, Room 248, Nutting Hall. The mailboxes are arranged in alphabetical order by last name. The mail comes in to Nutting Hall around noon time and is distributed to the individual mailboxes shortly after. Outgoing mail can be left in the slot marked \u201coutgoing mail\u201d and it will be taken to the mail drop off around 11:00 am each day.<\/p>\n<p>The mailboxes may get re-arranged at the beginning of each new semester if we have incoming students.\u00a0 Please be sure to check the name under the slot before grabbing the mail!<\/p>\n<h2>Office and Desk Space<\/h2>\n<p>It is the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Conservation Biology\u2019s policy to assign each postdoctoral associate and graduate student advised or co-advised by a department faculty member an individual desk space.<\/p>\n<p>The department currently has four graduate student offices in Nutting Hall: Rooms 101, 202, 212, 220, and 232A. The Department currently has an office dedicated for two postdoctoral associates on the first floor.<\/p>\n<p>All space assignments will be made by the department chair and no changes in office allocation will be made without prior authorization. There will be chances to request a move in desk space or a graduate student offices at least once a year. Students should not leave valuables unattended in their desk space.<\/p>\n<h2>Photocopying\/Printing\/Scanning<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"#A\">Building-Wide Machine<\/a> | <a href=\"#B\">Poster Printing<\/a> | <a href=\"#C\">Small Office Printers<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"A\"><\/a>Building-Wide Xerox Machine<\/h2>\n<p>There is a large color copier\/scanner\/printer located in Room 248, Nutting Hall. \u00a0You will need your MaineCard or your MaineStreet login information to access the copier.<\/p>\n<p>This machine has the capability to scan documents in color or black and white and have the document sent to you via email. \u00a0These scans can be sent as .jpg, .pdf, or .tiff.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Maine System (UMS) Xerox copiers come with a managed printing solution called Papercut. Below are some important items that you should know regarding using them.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You\u2019ll need to use your Mobile Maine card or MaineStreet login to release all your print jobs at the Xerox copier. \u00a0Please ensure your Maine Card is updated and provides Tap support as the Xerox devices will not support Swipe.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/print.maine.edu\">Web Portal<\/a> \u2013 You can manage your new Papercut account, request refunds, and more using the Papercut Web Portal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the Copier<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Visit a Xerox copier and Tap your MaineCard, a registered Mobile Credential device, or login using your MaineStreet login credentials.<\/li>\n<li>You should see three options \u2013 Print Release, Access Device, and Scan.<\/li>\n<li>Print Release is how you would print items you sent to the printer from your computer.\u00a0 Access Device is how you would make photocopies, and Scan is self-explanatory.<\/li>\n<li>Use the screen to adjust additional settings or change which account is charged.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>There are three distinct departments for expense allocation, and you should see at least one of them:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Faculty and Staff\n<ul>\n<li>This category includes all faculty and staff members across the campus<\/li>\n<li>UMS05\\UM Employee Print &amp; Copy (5000156-00-58401-xxxxxxx)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Student Employees\n<ul>\n<li>This designation applies to undergraduate and graduate students employed by the University or its various units<\/li>\n<li>UMS05\\UM Student Employee Print &amp; Copy (5000156-00-58402-xxxxxxx)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Research\n<ul>\n<li>Reserved for staff or students who receive full or partial compensation from soft-funded research projects<\/li>\n<li>UMS05\\UM Research Print &amp; Copy (5000156-00-58403-xxxxxxx)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>While most users will see only one additional department added, a few employees may have multiple departments added based on their roles and responsibilities, particularly concerning grants and contracts.\n<ul>\n<li>Research should only be selected for printing costs related to grants or contracts.<\/li>\n<li>Otherwise, for all other printing expenses, either UM Employee Print &amp; Copy or UM Student Employee Print &amp; Copy should be selected.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Report any problems to the Wildlife staff in Room 210. The copier paper in Room 248 is only for use in that copier. If you need copy paper for some purpose, please contact you advisor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\"><a href=\"#top\">Return to top.<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><a name=\"B\"><\/a>Poster Printing &#8211; Color Plotter<\/h2>\n<p>There is a color plotter in Nutting Hall that may be available to anyone in the College of Earth, Life, and Health Services for poster printing. You must work with Mark Austin, Room 208, to get your item printed. You will need a request form for an interdepartmental order (IDO).<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\"><a href=\"#top\">Return to top.<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><a name=\"C\"><\/a>Small Office Printer<\/h2>\n<p>If there is a printer in your office, this was provided by your supervisor and the staff cannot help you with jams, toner, or paper issues.\u00a0 You should check with your supervisor about ordering paper and toner. \u00a0Do not take paper from Room 248 Nutting Hall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\"><a href=\"#top\">Return to top.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>updated 9\/12\/2024<\/p>\n<h2>Shipping a Package<\/h2>\n<p>If you are sending something out for official University Business, you must have a request form that includes the delivery address, the weight of the package, the chartfield(s), and a signature. If you only have a PO Box for the recipient, you can only use US Postal Service.<\/p>\n<h3>1. US POSTAL SERVICE<\/h3>\n<p>The University of Maine mail room uses a barcode label for its billing system. Package up your shipment and give to Molly with the signed request form. A barcode label will be printed and applied to the package. If the package is large, you may be required to deliver it to the mail room, otherwise it will be put down in the outgoing mail box. The mail room will apply the correct postage, mail out the package, and charge your account for the postage. If you want to insure or track the package, you would have to put a note on the package with instructions for the mail room.<\/p>\n<h3>2. UPS<\/h3>\n<p>The Department has a UPS account that offers a discount and we can call for a pick up. We have per-printed supplies in room 210 with a tracking number.\u00a0 As long as you call by 3:30 pm, they will pick up any package the same day you call. They are reasonably priced, they provide a tracking number, and you can ask for a signature upon delivery.\u00a0 Again, you must have a request form &#8211; make sure you give Katherine a copy of the shipping label attached to the signed request form.\u00a0 If you have a UPS Air Letter or Pak, there is a drop box located outside of the Memorial Gymnasium that gets picked up at 4:30 pm Monday-Friday so we do not have to call for a pickup.<\/p>\n<h3>3.\u00a0 FEDEX<\/h3>\n<p>The University of Maine has a discount program with FedEx. We have pre-printed supplies in room 210 with a tracking number.\u00a0 FedEx picks up Express Packages at the University mail room every afternoon.\u00a0 If the package is rather small (about the size of a paper box), you can put a FedEx shipping label on it and put the box with the outgoing mail. Make sure you give Katherine a copy of the shipping label attached to the signed request form.<\/p>\n<p>If you miss the daily mail pickup at around 11:15 am, you can take it to the mail room before 3:00 pm or we can call FedEx for a pick up. We must call before 3:00 pm. If the package is to go FedEx Ground, we must call for a pick up and they will not come until the next day. If you have a Next Day Air envelope, there is one drop box outside of the Memorial Gymnasium that gets picked up at 4:30 pm Monday-Friday.<\/p>\n<h2>Telephone<\/h2>\n<p>Each graduate office has a shared telephone; please decide among fellow office mates proper telephone procedures.<\/p>\n<p>You need to dial an 8 to call off campus.<\/p>\n<p>1.
