Dr. Gilbert retired from the faculty of the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Conservation Biology in January 2012 after 35 years of service to the University of Maine.

Jim is currently serving as Chair of the Atlantic Scientific Review Group that reviews the marine mammal research of NOAA Fisheries and the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
