Spring Art Exhibit Examines Conceptions of “Home”

The Wilson Center has a new art exhibit on display this semester entitled, “#Uprooted: Some Sense of Home.” This collective community project was coordinated by Maine artist Susan Smith, who was a recipient of a 2016-2017 SCOPE Grant from the Wilson Center.

Inspired by the worldwide immigrant/refugee crisis, in which so many are fleeing their homelands, the exhibit looks at the place we call “home” through the eyes of local community members. Smith distributed mass produced house forms to local schools, colleges, homeless service centers, food banks, nursing homes, and libraries and participants used the basic house structure to create art pieces that showing their interpretation of “home”. The homes on display at The Wilson Center make up a sample of the many pieces that participants have created.

In the fall the exhibit was on display at Waterfall Arts in Belfast. After this spring the exhibit will be on display in additional locations across the state.

Contact The Wilson Center at 866-4227 or wilsoncenterorono@gmail.com to schedule a time to view the exhibit.
