Alternative Breaks (AB) is a student organization at the University of Maine. We are the Black Bear Chapter of Break Away, the national alternative break organization with the vision of “creating a society of active citizens.” AB is affiliated with The Barbara Higgins Bodwell ‘45 Center for Service & Volunteerism in the Memorial Union. AB is a service-focused, drug and alcohol free organization that is funded completely through fundraising, participant dues, and University of Maine Student Government, Inc.
The Trip Advisor role is strategic in the success of our groups and service trips. Qualifications include University of Maine employment, proven ability to support and mentor students, and an interest in service. It is highly encouraged that advisor’s exceed the expectations of the student members to set a positive example of accountability to the AB commitment. Students are required to participate in fundraising events, attend weekly meetings and monthly all-AB meetings, and participate in the annual all-AB overnight retreat. Also required is a group presentation upon return of all groups in the end of March. Trip advisors will be required to attend an orientation/info session and be in contact with Lisa Morin for advisor training.
If you have any questions about the Trip Advisor role, please contact Lisa Morin. We will keep in touch with all potential advisors periodically.
