Veterans or dependents applying for VA educational benefits for the first time <\/strong>must :<\/strong><\/p>\n

Go to the\u00a0GI Bill\u00ae website<\/a>\u00a0to obtain a Certificate of Eligibility, COE\u00a0 or Notification Of Basic Eligibility, NOBE<\/p>\n

NOTE: Initial enrollment\u00a0 for educational benefits may take up to 15 weeks to process by the Veteran’s Administration. Subsequent enrollments are processed automatically provided you are\u00a0 certified\u00a0 by the VETS office as registered for classes, with the exception of Summer Session ( see Summer Session Certification).<\/p>\n

Once you have applied and\u00a0 have been accepted\u00a0 at the University of Maine, to access your educational benefits to attend UMaine,\u00a0 veterans or dependents must :<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Submit you Certificate of Eligibility, COE or Notice of Basic Eligibility, NOBE to the UMaine VETS office<\/li>\n
  2. All Chapters must complete a CERTIFICATION REQUEST FORM<\/a>\u00a0to VETS office as soon as they are registered for each coming semester.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    It is the responsibility of the student to\u00a0 submit a Request for VA Educational Benefits\u00a0 to the V.E.T.S.\u00a0 office as soon as you are registered for classes,\u00a0 if you would like to receive benefits for any semester including summer session .<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Summer Session Certification<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Veteran students who enroll in summer session courses must be certified by the VETS Office before payment of benefits can be authorized. Continuous payment of benefits is authorized providing the student maintains the required credit load. Regular semester full credit loads are modified for summer certification.\u00a0 Summer session classes at UMaine can vary in scheduling. Check with the V.E.T.S.\u00a0 office before enrolling for summer classes to determine your rate of entitlement.<\/p>\n

    Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veteran’s Affairs (CHAMPVA)<\/strong><\/p>\n

    It is the responsibility of the student to request verification of enrollment each semester.\u00a0 Students must be certified with CHAMPVA every semester to receive this benefit.\u00a0 The Office of Student Records, at the University of Maine can provide verification of enrollment . You must\u00a0 specifically request that the verification of enrollment letter\u00a0 include your Social Security number if needed.<\/p>\n
