As a new student veteran, you\u2019ll want to review our VETS checklist below. Also, please check out<\/a> the checklist for new commuters and non-traditional students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Checklist for New or Returning Student Veterans<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. Request your COE(Certificate of Eligibility) or NOBE(Notice of Basic Eligibility) from the VA by going on the\u00a0GI Bill website<\/a> and clicking on \u201cApply for Benefits\u201d(obtaining your COE\/NOBE may take a while; continue with the following steps if you have completed the online portion).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Transferring Students will need to fill out another form on Vets.gov<\/a>, a 22-1995.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Sign up for classes (for assistance enrolling, contact the Admissions Office<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          After Acceptance to UMaine:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    1. Submit your COE\/NOBE to the UMaine VETS office to be certified for veterans benefits.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Every semester,\u00a0submit the\u00a0Request for VA Educational Benefits form<\/a>. This form is accessible on our website and should be completed as soon as you finalize your classes for the term.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. (For Chapters 33 and 31 ONLY)<\/strong> Log onto Mainstreet and fill out your \u201cAnticipated <\/a>Resources<\/a>\u201d to avoid being charged a late fee from the Bursar’s office.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    4. IMPORTANT: For Ch. 30, 33, 35, 1606, and 1607\u00a0benefits,\u00a0you must verify your attendance at the University of Maine at the end of each month. Please visit the\u00a0GI Bill website<\/a> and click on \u201cVerify Attendance\u201d to confirm that you are still enrolled.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    5. If you have any changes to your COE, Class Schedule, or academic standing, you MUST let the VETS office know immediately.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
