In this new series of blog posts, we will explore different gems throughout the three regions that Undiscovered Maine focuses on. This week, we are looking at the wonderful skiing trips that you can plan, whether that be this winter or next!<\/p>\n

Maine has plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities in winter. Despite Maine’s mountains not being as tall as other parts of the country, our slopes are just as exhilarating to fly down! People visit from all over the world to bask in the bright glow of Maine’s ski trails.<\/p>\n

Western Maine<\/h4>\n

Our first highlighted skiing activity takes place on Black Mountain<\/strong><\/a> in Rumford! Black Mountain has a few different trails to follow that range in difficulty from easy to difficult. There are ski lifts, but there are also opportunities for uphill skiing if you find yourself looking for a unique challenge! The main building also houses a cafe and a pub upstairs, with plenty of options to refuel and wind down after a day on the slopes!<\/p>\n

Downeast<\/h4>\n

The next skiing adventure is set in the beautiful Witherle Woods<\/strong><\/a> in Castine. The area once hosted battles during the American Revolution, and offers gorgeous views and varying terrain. In some areas, you are able to experience breathtaking views of Penobscot Bay, the mouth of the Penobscot River. The trails are great for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in the winter, so be sure to check them out!<\/p>\n

Aroostook County<\/h4>\n

The third area to visit is in Fort Kent, at Lonesome Pine Trails<\/strong><\/a>! Here, you can ski on a number of well-groomed trails, and have access to not only the Fort Kent Outdoor Ski Center, but you are able to then take trails that work back toward the main lodge. The mountain is actually within walking distance of the town itself, meaning you can easily hop over to the mountain for a day of skiing upon waking up from your choice of lodging!<\/p>\n
