This treaty was known as the &#8220;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">1794 Treaty of Amity, Commerce, and Navigation.&#8221; However, this treaty was unsuccessful and replaced by the Webster-Ashburton Treaty, which arose at the end of the Aroostook War. Amity was one of the towns argued over to which country it truly belonged.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the 1800&#8217;s Amity had three schools, and in the 1900s a grange hall was added, encouraging the joining together of families to promote economic prosperity in their communities and agriculture. Today, Amity is known for its farmland and several abandoned houses.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Activities<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/amitymatters.com\/veterans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Amity Veterans Memorial<\/strong><\/a><em>\u00a0Across from the Amity Church located at<\/em><em>:\u00a0<\/em><em>1165 US-1, Amity, ME 04471<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>Check out this veterans memorial located right off Route 1!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/amitymatters.com\/reed-school\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reed School<\/a> <\/strong><em>801 Calais Rd, Amity, ME 04471<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>This old, historic schoolhouse is on the National Register of Historic Places!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/clui.org\/ludb\/site\/boundary-monument-1-east\"><strong>Monument One<\/strong><\/a> <em>45.9434\u00b0N 67.7812\u00b0W<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>This remote monument marks the Maine &#8211; New Brunswick boarder dating back to the early 1800s.
