Formerly known as Dunntown, the origin of its current name is unknown. Unlike many neighboring towns, Wade&#8217;s growth was not driven by the lumber industry. It&#8217;s relatively untouched forests are likely a factor in areas of the Wade being recognized as one of Maine&#8217;s Focus Areas of Statewide Ecological Significance. (<a href=\"https:\/\/maineanencyclopedia.com\/wade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Source<\/a>) Agriculture continues to be the main economic activity in Wade and its farmland, rolling hills, and access to the Aroostook River make it a wonderful place to visit.<\/p>\n<p>We are not aware of many businesses located within Wade, but plenty of options are available in neighboring towns:<\/p>\n<h4>Activities<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.traillink.com\/trail\/bangor-and-aroostook-trail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Bangor and Aroostook Trail<\/strong><\/a> <em>Wade, Maine 04786 <\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>This trail passes through Wade between Washburn and Perham. The 61-mile multi-use trail is part of northern Maine\u2019s Interconnected Trail System.
