Welcome to Castine!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Castine is a delightfully historic town located in the far southwestern area of our Westerly Frontier. The town represents over 400 years of development, change, and historical events! It is home to several forts from all different eras of New England history, built by different nations as they occupied the area.<\/p>\n

Castine started as a French colony in the early 17th century, predating even the Puritans arriving in Massachusetts at Plymouth. Over the years it was occupied by the British more than once, and was eventually returned to the United States, where it remains today.<\/p>\n

The town has always had a strong maritime role in the economy of the region, and in the modern era hosts the esteemed Maine Maritime Academy, where people learn to excel at all manor of fields related to science, engineering, management, and transportation.<\/p>\n
