Note – we put some scheduled times in here just to give you some ideas. You can pick and choose what you want to do. Be sure to look at when they are open and if there are any COVID restrictions. In fact, it would probably be a good idea to call any that you plan to visit just to be on the safe side.

Western Maine is home to hundreds of miles of snowmobiling trails taking you through the mountains to the lakes and everywhere in between. The Black Fly Loop in Franklin County passes through Rangley, Stratton, the Carrabassett Valley and south to Strong.

Then, let your snowmobile adventure begin! If you have your own snowmobiles, there are several places to park your truck and trailer. We see many people parking in the lot behind the Stratton fire station. You can also park and ride from any of the restaurants mentioned below. 

Tea Pond Lodge & Cabins

You can start your journey with Tea Pond Lodge and Cabins during an overnight stay. They have an on site restaurant and fueling station and plenty of parking. Trailer your sleds to their lodge or stop by when you’re on the trail in Eustis. 

White Wolf Inn & Restaurant

146 Main St, Stratton, ME 04982 | 207-246-2922

A unique dining experience located right off the trail in Stratton near Flagstaff Lake with plenty of parking and lodging if you are interested in an overnight stay. They have plenty of choices on the menu from fine dining to their famous Wolf Burger. During Covid-19 they are open to dine-in with a reservation and take out is always available. Call ahead to make sure you have a table!

Quill Hill

Quill Hill, Rangeley, ME

A beautiful mountain lookout over Rangeley Lake is an easy snowmobile climb (open in the summertime as well to drive up). It is open 24 hours but be sure to go up on a clear day for the best views. It is a nice rest stop to break up your ride.

Longfellow’s Restaurant

On your way to Stratton, stop in Kingfield, ME for a delicious home-cooked meal at Longfellow’s restaurant. Serving locals since 1980, they have perfected the family-owned dining experience. 


Parking

There is ample parking along the trail. Here are a few options for parking.

  • Entering Rangeley on Rt. 16 (Main Street), there is a public park-and-ride lot on the left, across from the IGA. Continuing down the hill, there is another lot on the right, at the intersection of Main and Depot Street.
  • In Kingfield, easy trailside parking is available next to the Sled Shed on the south side of town.
  • For day riders in the Forks, there is a free park & ride lot at Northern Outdoors on Route 201 which connects to the Kennebec River Trail.
  • Loon Lodge in Rangeley has expanded parking available to accommodate trailers located at 16 Pickford Rd., Rangeley, Maine. 
  • The Rack, a brew pub near Sugarloaf mountain is the perfect place to park if you’re starting in Carrabassett Valley. They also open at 4 pm for live music and great food.

Packing List

The weather in Maine can be unpredictable. Therefore, here are some ideas to be prepared. Wear comfortable clothes and dress in layers, Maine is very casual, so you probably will not find any restaurants that require formal attire.

 

Spring/Summer/Fall: clothes, comfortable sneakers or hiking shoes for walking, sun hat, sunscreen, sweater or jacket, insect repellent, toiletries, and phone/camera

Winter: clothes (layers), ski pants highly recommended, winter boots, jacket, hats, scarves, gloves, warm socks, toiletries, and phone/camera. Please pack a helmet if you are participating in snowmobiling, skiing, or snowboarding.

Fun Facts

  • Tea Pond Lodge and Cabins is home to Golden Retrievers that love to say hi to visitors. You’ll probably meet them while you’re in the restaurant!
  • Grand Falls is located off of ITS 89 & ITS 86 to Jackman and the Forks. It is the largest horseshoe shaped waterfall north of Niagara Falls.
