Note – we put some scheduled times in here just to give you some ideas. You can pick and choose what you want to do. Be sure to look at when they are open and if there are any COVID restrictions. In fact, it would probably be a good idea to call any that you plan to visit just to be on the safe side. 

Overview

This itinerary takes you to Sugarloaf Mountain in Carrabassett Valley, which has so many restaurants and activities available you’ll never run out of things to do!

DAY 1

Breakfast at 45 North

Start off your day at 45 North for a great breakfast to power you through your day, located in the Sugarloaf Mountain Hotel.

Sugarloaf is home to 162 trails and glades, giving you plenty of options at every level! Check out their website to see the statistics and plan out where you want to begin. 

Lunch at the Widowmaker

Take a break at the Widowmaker for a delicious lunch, located in the Base Lodge of Sugarloaf.

Finish off your day Ice Skating or Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing

If you’re looking to take a break from skiing, try out some of their other activities. Sugarloaf is home to an NHL sized ice skating rink and ice skate rentals for all sizes. It also features miles of snowshoe trails through the forests and along mountain streams, with snowshoe rentals available.

Dinner at the Rack

Finish off your day at the Rack, an independently owned restaurant co-owned by two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Seth Wescott, to get burgers, beer, and barbeque.

DAY 2

Java Joe’s is a cozy coffee spot, great to grab some fresh coffee and baked goods before starting off your day.

Cat Skiing (or regular skiing)

Fat Biking or Sno-Go Ski-biking

Try your hand at fat biking through the snow, or try out Sno-Go ski biking, which, as the name suggests, combines skiing and biking. For more info on both, check out the links provided. 

Dinner at the Bag & Kettle

Packing Checklist

The weather in Maine can be unpredictable. Therefore, here are some ideas to be prepared. Wear comfortable clothes and dress in layers, Maine is very casual, so you probably will not find any restaurants that require formal attire.

 

Spring/Summer/Fall: clothes, comfortable sneakers or hiking shoes for walking, sun hat, sunscreen, sweater or jacket, insect repellent, toiletries, and phone/camera

Winter: clothes (layers), ski pants highly recommended, winter boots, jacket, hats, scarves, gloves, warm socks, toiletries, and phone/camera. Please pack a helmet if you are participating in snowmobiling, skiing, or snowboarding.

Fun Facts

  • The Sugarloaf ski plans were originally meant for the Bigelow Mountain range, but was relocated to Sugarloaf when the town of Flagstaff was flooded for a CMP hydro-dam, creating Flagstaff Lake.
  • Sugarloaf’s first trail was cut in 1950 by the Sugarloaf Mountain Ski Club and a group known as the “Bigelow Boys.”
  • Carrabassett Valley, the town where Sugarloaf is located, is Maine’s youngest state, founded in October 1971.
