Note – we put some scheduled times in here just to give you some ideas. You can pick and choose what you want to do. Be sure to look at when they are open and if there are any COVID restrictions. In fact, it would probably be a good idea to call any that you plan to visit just to be on the safe side.

Ellsworth is a wonderful town near the coast that is often considered the “gateway to Downeast” by locals. It can be reached from almost any direction, and gives access to the bulk of the Downeast region, as well as Mount Desert Island and even the northern part of the state if one travels to Bangor and onto I-95.

After 7:30 am:  Eat breakfast at Governor’s Restaurant and Bakery

Governor’s is a Maine staple and has locations in a few towns. Their bakery has fresh goodies to take back to your room with you!

Hours: Sunday – Thursday: 6:30 am – 9:00 pm, Friday – Saturday: 6:30 am – 10:00 pm

Noon: Lunch at DragonFire Pizza

This gem can be found in the Mill Mall. Unlike many other pizza places, DragonFire makes their pizza in a large gas- and wood-fired oven! They serve plenty of other dishes as well, and have a wonderful assortment of beer and wine to choose from.

Afternoon snack: Eat At Joe’s

A wonderful stop for an afternoon snack, Eat At Joe’s is a food truck that serves the best of Maine’s organic foods!

Hours: Monday: closed, Tuesday – Thursday: 3:00 pm – 8:30 pm, Friday: 3:00 pm – 10:30 pm, Saturday: 11:30 am – 10:30 pm, Sunday: 11:30 am – 9:00 pm

Dinner: Serendib Indian and Sri Lankan

Delicious and beautiful Indian and Sri Lankan cuisine that has something to offer for everyone. Many of their dishes can be prepared to be dairy-free, and many are vegetarian or vegan! Not only do they have great main dishes and starters, but their side dishes and desserts are wonderful as well!

Dessert before 8 pm: Morton’s Moo Homemade Ice Cream

Delicious ice cream in a friendly atmosphere, using Maine dairy. Morton’s also sells gelato and sorbet! Morton’s also prides itself on using eco-friendly serving modes and recycling practices. Take home some of their tasty homemade whoopie pies, a Maine classic!

After filling up on all of the delicious food that Ellsworth has to offer, enjoy the rest of the evening snacking on leftovers from throughout the day!

The weather in Maine can be unpredictable. Therefore, here are some ideas to be prepared. Wear comfortable clothes and dress in layers, Maine is very casual, so you probably will not find any restaurants that require formal attire.

 

Spring/Summer/Fall: clothes, comfortable sneakers or hiking shoes for walking, sun hat, sunscreen, sweater or jacket, insect repellent, toiletries, and phone/camera

Winter: clothes (layers), ski pants highly recommended, winter boots, jacket, hats, scarves, gloves, warm socks, toiletries, and phone/camera. Please pack a helmet if you are participating in snowmobiling, skiing, or snowboarding.
