Note – we put some scheduled times in here just to give you some ideas. You can pick and choose what you want to do. Be sure to look at when they are open and if there are any COVID restrictions. In fact, it would probably be a good idea to call any that you plan to visit just to be on the safe side.

Castine is a historic town located along Midcoast Maine, dating back several centuries. It contains within its bounds a number of forts, historic sites, and the famous Maine Maritime Academy.


Day 1

Before 9:00 am: Start the morning at our recommended lodging option, Pentagoet Inn and Restaurant

9:00am: Begin at Fort Pentagoet

One of the oldest areas of the city! The original structure is gone, but the site is marked by a stone structure.

10:00 am: Next, stop by Fort George

British ships protecting their occupation of Castine

A fort that was built by the British when they occupied the area. Unlike Fort Pentagoet, Fort George still has the earthen palisade intact. 

11:00 am: The last of the three forts to visit is Fort Madison

Another fort that was used by the British in the early 19th century.

 

12:00 pm: Have lunch at

3:00 pm: Finish up the sightseeing day at Dyce Head Lighthouse

A lighthouse that has been a part of the Castine coast for a long time. The lighthouse has been renovated and rebuilt over the course of its existence.

The weather in Maine can be unpredictable. Therefore, here are some ideas to be prepared. Wear comfortable clothes and dress in layers, Maine is very casual, so you probably will not find any restaurants that require formal attire.

 

Spring/Summer/Fall: clothes, comfortable sneakers or hiking shoes for walking, sun hat, sunscreen, sweater or jacket, insect repellent, toiletries, and phone/camera

Winter: clothes (layers), ski pants highly recommended, winter boots, jacket, hats, scarves, gloves, warm socks, toiletries, and phone/camera. Please pack a helmet if you are participating in snowmobiling, skiing, or snowboarding.
