Note – we put some scheduled times in here just to give you some ideas. You can pick and choose what you want to do. Be sure to look at when they are open and if there are any COVID restrictions. In fact, it would probably be a good idea to call any that you plan to visit just to be on the safe side.

Morning:

8:00 am: Start your day with a delicious breakfast at The Brookside Inn

9:15 am: Head to Houlton Power Sports for ATV rentals

Rent your preferred ATVs and enjoy the trails! Open Monday – Friday from 8:00 am – 5:30 pm and Saturday 8:00 am – 1:00 pm.

10:00 am: Head across the road and begin North on the Southern Bangor and Aroostook Trail.

Drive past the Blue Moose Lodge on the way and when you turn around (on the way back) stop at the Blue Moose Lodge to grab lunch! “Largely gravel, and in some places wide enough to accommodate logging trucks (use caution), it connects the small communities of Monticello, Bridgewater, and Mars Hill to bigger towns like Presque Isle and Houlton. Paralleling Route 1, this is an old train corridor that once took the timber and potatoes of The County to mills and markets in the south, and it wends its way through farmlands, woods, and wetlands, making for good wildlife viewing.”

12:30 pm: Lunch off the trail at The Blue Moose Lodge

3:00 pm: Head back to Houlton Power Sports

Packing Checklist

The weather in Maine can be unpredictable. Therefore, here are some ideas to be prepared. Wear comfortable clothes and dress in layers, Maine is very casual, so you probably will not find any restaurants that require formal attire.

 

Spring/Summer/Fall: clothes, comfortable sneakers or hiking shoes for walking, sun hat, sunscreen, sweater or jacket, insect repellent, toiletries, and phone/camera

 

Winter: clothes (layers), ski pants highly recommended, winter boots, jacket, hats, scarves, gloves, warm socks, toiletries, and phone/camera. Please pack a helmet if you are participating in snowmobiling, skiing, or snowboarding.
