“Machias” means “bad little falls” in the Passamaquoddy language. For people looking for unique, local riverside experiences, the town of Machias is a great stop! This itinerary will take you to visit restaurants, riverside trails, and more!

Note – we put some scheduled times in here just to give you some ideas. You can pick and choose what you want to do. Be sure to look at when they are open and if there are any COVID restrictions. In fact, it would probably be a good idea to call any that you plan to visit just to be on the safe side.

Day 1

9:00am:  Start your trip at Bad Little Falls Park

 A quick way to enjoy a walk along the falls. Bring a blanket and lunch for a picnic at the tables as well for the scenic view!

10:00 AM: Stoll along Jasper Beach in Machiasport

Jasper Beach Machias, MEColorful pebbles and a sunny breeze is all you’ll need to appreciate Jasper Beach. The cool water helps on a hot summer day allowing the beach to be the perfect stop before lunch.

It’s happy hour! Looking for a wine and dine experience before dinner, stop by The French Cellar for a wide selection of wines and craft beers. The French Cellar has the largest selection of Maine Craft Beers, microbrews from Belgium, and even goat cheese to make the perfect pre-dinner selection.

The weather in Maine can be unpredictable. Therefore, here are some ideas to be prepared. Wear comfortable clothes and dress in layers, Maine is very casual, so you probably will not find any restaurants that require formal attire.

 

Spring/Summer/Fall: clothes, comfortable sneakers or hiking shoes for walking, sun hat, sunscreen, sweater or jacket, insect repellent, toiletries, and phone/camera

Winter: clothes (layers), ski pants highly recommended, winter boots, jacket, hats, scarves, gloves, warm socks, toiletries, and phone/camera. Please pack a helmet if you are participating in snowmobiling, skiing, or snowboarding.!
