Aroostook County Snowmobiling Itinerary (1 Day)


Note – we put some scheduled times in here just to give you some ideas. You can pick and choose what you want to do. Be sure to look at when they are open and if there are any COVID restrictions. In fact, it would probably be a good idea to call any that you plan to visit just to be on the safe side.

Aroostook Snowmobiles


9:00 AM – Breakfast at Teresa’s Corner Cafe and Bakery

Start off your day at Teresa’s Corner Cafe and Bakery for a delicious breakfast and baked goods.

2 min drive to the Sled Shop

10:00 AM – The Sled Shop, Inc.

108 Main Street, Presque Isle, ME 04769

If you don’t already own a snowmobile, stop at the Sled Shop for Ski-Doo snowmobile rentals starting at $250 per day. 

10:30 AM – Snowmobile along the Aroostook Valley Trail

Snowstorm in Easton

The Aroostook Valley Trail is part of Maine’s Interconnected Trail System (ITS), which connects over 3,000 snowmobile and ATV trails across the state. This trail is popular among snowmobilers for its scenery, winding through forests and potato farms as it follows the Aroostook River. Since there are so many trails in the area, be sure to check out TrailLink’s website for a detailed guide of the trails

1:00 PM – Lunch at Frederick’s Southside Restaurant

Warm up at Frederick’s Southside Restaurant in Caribou for lunch. Frederick’s serves delicious pizza, burgers, salads, and more.

2:00 PM – Snowmobile along the Aroostook Valley Trail

After lunch, continue snowmobiling on the route you came back to Presque Isle. 

4:30 PM – Return snowmobiles to the Sled Shop, Inc.

Once you’re ready to wrap up your snowmobiling day, head back to the Sled Shop to return your snowmobiles. Since it gets dark around 4:00 PM (and the Sled Shop usually closes at 5:00 PM), be sure to plan accordingly.

5:00 PM – Dinner at Pat’s Pizza

Finish off your day at Pat’s Pizza in Presque Isle, a classic Maine chain where you can find great pizza, sandwiches, wings, and more. 


Packing Checklist

The weather in Maine can be unpredictable. Therefore, here are some ideas to be prepared. Wear comfortable clothes and dress in layers, Maine is very casual, so you probably will not find any restaurants that require formal attire.

 

Spring/Summer/Fall: clothes, comfortable sneakers or hiking shoes for walking, sun hat, sunscreen, sweater or jacket, insect repellent, toiletries, and phone/camera

Winter: clothes (layers), ski pants highly recommended, winter boots, jacket, hats, scarves, gloves, warm socks, toiletries, and phone/camera. Please pack a helmet if you are participating in snowmobiling, skiing, or snowboarding.

Fun Facts

The Interconnected Trail System contains over 3,000 miles of ATV and snowmobile trails. 

Other popular ITS trails in Aroostook County include ITS 88 and ITS 81. ITS 88 is a 50-mile route between Fort Fairfield and Ashland and features sights of Mount Katahdin from a distance. ITS 81, also known as the Border Trail, extends between Mars Hill and Van Buren, occasionally passes through Canada (though no passport is needed if you stay on the trail), and passes the old Loring Air Force Base.
