    • Beautiful scenic view overlooking East Grand, Brackett, and Deering Lakes!
  • Saturn – The Maine Solar System Model US-1, Westfield, ME 04787
    • Located in Aroostook County is the world’s largest complete 3-D, 40-mile long scale model of the solar system, representing from the Sun to Pluto. The model was built by various Aroostook County community members and was formally unveiled in June 2003.
  • Shoe Tree US-1, Hodgdon, ME 04730 (near the Jackins Settlement Rd)
    • With 150 pairs of shoes or more, this maple tree is an interesting sight to see!

    • Don’t miss this rest stop’s panoramic views of the Chain of Ponds and informative displays about the history of the area!
  • Coos Canyon Byron, ME 04275
    • Located right in the center of Byron, this canyon and 32 foot gorge are a popular spot for swimming, picnics, and panning for gold in the famed Swift River!
  • EC and MI Record Homestead 8 Bean Rd, Buckfield, ME 04220
    • This historic homestead, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is one of few well-preserved examples of the Federal-Greek Revival architectural style.
  • Evans Notch Overlook Hwy 113, South Oxford, ME 03813
    • The view from Evans Notch is not to be missed! This point marks the divide between the Saco and Androscoggin River watersheds.
  • Height of Land Rte 17, Township E, ME 04970
    • Height of Land is a must-see view before you leave the Rangeley area. It overlooks Richardson Lake and Mooselookmeguntic Lake; the White Mountains are in the distance, as well!

    • This series of cascades conveniently located just off Route 4 is a great place to take a break, sit on the rocks, and have a picnic or just enjoy the falls’ beauty.
  • Rangeley Lakes National Scenic Byway Rangeley, ME 04970
    • This route takes around 2.5 hours and is 52 miles long, known for looking at fall foliage and has breathtaking views.
  • Sarampus Falls Rte 27, North Franklin, ME 04936
    • This lovely roadside waterfall offers a nice, kid-friendly swimming hole, picnic and grilling area, and public restrooms.
  • Scenic Byway Carrabassett Valley, ME 04947
    • State Route 27 goes through many historic and beautiful areas and stretches all the way to the Canadian border.
  • Shelton Noyes Overlook Rte 17, Rangeley Plt, ME 04970
    • This roadside overlook is a great place to pull over and enjoy a panoramic view. Typically less crowded than the nearby Height of Land, this is a hidden gem!
  • Smalls Falls Main St, East Central Franklin, ME 04970
    • This excellent rest stop offers a beautiful waterfall and swimming hole, great picnic spots, and a nice walking trail.
  • Snow Falls Gorge 91 ME-26, West Paris, ME 04289
    • This roadside rest area offers views of a beautiful waterfall and a small hiking trail.
  • The World Traveler Signpost Intersection of Route 35 and Route 5, Bethel, ME 04217
    • “Turns out you can see the world without ever leaving Maine.” This famous signpost is a great addition to your trip if you’re headed up to the Western Maine area. It features a list of countries that are actually Maine towns!
  • The World’s Largest Telephone 1 North Main Street, Woodstock, ME 04219
    • In 1938, the last hand-cranked phone system in the country was sold, giving the village of Bryant Pond direct-dial and catching them up with the modern phone world. The people of the village wanted to remember their old phones. This is when Gil Whitman (World War II veteran, county sheriff, Maine State Representative, barbershop quartet singer, and talented iron sculptor) decided to build a 14-foot candlestick phone to be installed in Remembrance Park.
