Silicon-Carbide Nanowires and Thin Films for Sensing Strain and Pressure in Harsh Environments
Mentored by Sheila Edalatpour

Hua Lin is studying silicon carbide sensors in order to understand if they can be used to collect data in high stress situations – situations in which there are high temperature and pressure. He uses computational methods and hopes this work will result in a new material for sensing stresses that the typical silicon sensors cannot operate in.

“As an Engineering Physics student concentrating in Mechanical Engineering, I am interested in research and development in the area of mechanics. The project is a perfect example of applying computational physics to model and develop sensing elements for use in Mechanical Engineering,” says Lin.
