Society of Physics Students
Updated 09-26-2019
The Society of Physics Students (SPS) is both a local University club and a National organization. Those who attend our weekly meetings do not have to join SPS national although they are encouraged to do so if they desire. We hold weekly meetings that include talks from professors, physics discussion, viewing parties, study sessions, and liquid nitrogen ice-cream. We also have various fundraising events to maintain our physics lounge in Bennett hall, and are responsible for planning a number of major events for the Physics department. Two of our major actions as an academic society on campus includes physics outreach (doing physics demos for younger students at schools and at the yearly Engineering Expo) and running the pre-exam review sessions for Physics 121 and 122. First and foremost however, the purpose of SPS at the University of Maine is to foster a welcoming community of Physics (and non-Physics) students through a shared love and appreciation for the Physical Sciences.
Meets: Monday, 3:00 – 4:00 pm, 102 Bennett Hall
