Bentley Simpson

Bentley Simpson is a senior majoring in Marine Science with a concentration in oceanography. While he is an involved and motivated student within his department, his biggest passion here lies with the University of Maine Student Government. Bentley has served with UMSG since the fall of his freshman year when he joined as a senator. During that time he held multiple positions including Sergeant at Arms, Faculty Senate Representative, Services and Auxiliaries Representative, and University of Maine Security Representative, while also serving on multiple Senate committees.

Last year, Bentley served as the President of the Senate where he had an opportunity to build a reliable working relationship with the senators within UMSG and administrators on campus.

This year, Bentley will be working closely with Vice President Flaherty to improve campus culture. Internal to student government, Bentley focuses heavily on developing the talent and skills of younger members; just as others did for him when he first joined. On a campus wide level, Bentley is striving to ensure all students are proud to call UMaine their home. Whether it’s reviewing the student conduct code, building an outdoor ice rink on campus for the winter, or advocating for better student mental health services, the projects Bentley and the UMSG team engages in aim to improve campus for all students.
