Club Feature: Wilde Stein

Hearty Maine Hello! Check out the Club Feature of the week, Wilde Stein!

Wilde Stein is UMaine’s all-inclusive LGBTQ+ and Allies organization!

We work with LGBTQ Services to promote equality on campus as well as providing educational and fun events to the campus community. We are dedicated to affirming and celebrating the diversity of all regardless of gender expression, gender identity, or, sexual orientation.

We currently meet on Mondays at 7:00 pm in Totman Room of Memorial Union.

Wilde Stein strives to be a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community and aligning allies. Our goals include providing community outreach to LGBTQ+ youth in the Bangor/Orono area, as well as advocating for other marginalized groups on UMaine’s campus. Pride Week was last week which is a really big week for Wilde Stein, as Pride Week raises visibility to UMaine’s queer community; the events vary each year, however, the Drag Show is a recurring tradition we cherish and look forward to.

Outside of Pride Week, we have Gay Thanksgiving and Transgender Day of Remembrance. Gay Thanksgiving provides a safe space for queer folks without the option to return home for the holidays and TDOR holds trans lives lost to hate in remembrance and memorial.

Our upcoming event, Lavender Prom, is April 28th at 6-9pm in Wells Conference Center; we hold the event as a second-chance prom for queer students who were not able to express themselves as openly in high school. It’s a semi-formal event meant for all in the LGBTQ+ community and interested allies!
