We are incredibly fortunate to benefit from the expertise, experience, passion, and determination of eight faculty who work on a wide range of sustainability challenges and serve on our Leadership Council. Their expertise spans the natural sciences, social sciences, engineering and humanities, and they represent eight different UMaine departments and schools as well as three different colleges. Individually and collectively, they are an invaluable source of ideas and energy as we work to strengthen the Center’s diverse partnerships and support our faculty and students.

We were very sorry to lose Bob Kates, Presidential Professor of Sustainability Science, who died on April 29, 2018 at the age of 89. We were incredibly fortunate that he agreed to chair our Science Advisory Board during the 5-year, $20 million Sustainability Solutions Initiative grant that led to the creation of the Center for Sustainability Solutions.
