Welcome!

The fraternity life community is pleased to welcome the Class of 2027 to the larger University of Maine community! We are excited to have you join our community and even more thrilled that you are interested in joining a fraternity.

Our History…

Fraternity and sorority life at the University of Maine dates back to 1874, only nine years after the founding of the University of Maine in 1865. As fraternity and sorority life has been an active part of the University of Maine community for over 140 years, many of the traditions and values within our institution have been shared with and inspired by fraternity and sorority life.

Making your First Steps into Brotherhood…

The choice to join a fraternity shows a commitment to high ideals, strong shared values, and an obligation to hold oneself to a higher standard. These along with taking responsibility for academics, community service, and leadership opportunities are characteristics fraternities are looking for potential new members. Joining a fraternity is an excellent way for you to become more involved and engaged in your college experience.

The University of Maine fraternities individually conduct their own recruitment process near the beginning of each semester.

If you are interested in more information on the fraternity recruitment schedules, e-mail UMaineIFC@gmail.com or stop by our information tables during various orientation and welcome weekend events. Additionally, the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life is always open in Room 143 of the Memorial Union!
