What is Thriving Leaders?

The Thriving Leaders Program was created by the Leadership Development team in The Center for Student Involvement and was first implemented during the 2020 Fall semester at the University of Maine. Thriving Leaders is a workshop series that focuses on refining the leadership skills of our experienced campus leaders, typically juniors and seniors, and preparing them with effective mentoring, coaching, and facilitation strategies to be used later in a mentoring role for the Emerging Leaders Program

Our mission is to develop ethical, compassionate, and effective  leaders who can assist in the leadership development of new or emerging leaders on our campus and in our local community.  We hope to inspire confidence on one’s own leadership abilities which can then be used to influence and inspire their peers, further increasing their breadth and effectiveness as leaders.

Are You Interested in Participating?

Participation in Thriving Leaders is a wonderful way to expand upon your foundational leadership skills and learn how to share those skills with future leaders on our campus and in the local community. By participating in Thriving Leaders, you are also one step closer to being inducted into the Dirigo Leadership Society, UMaine’s honorary leadership society. This program will also count towards the earning of Leadership Level 1, Leadership Level 2, and Leadership Level 3 UMS micro-credential badges (more information here).

Thriving Leaders Testimonials

At the end of the Thriving Leaders Program, we asked our Thriving Leaders how they felt about participating in the program. Below are a few testimonials from past Thriving Leaders.

2021 Thriving Leaders:

“I had a fun time during thriving leaders and I learned a lot. I was really nice networking with other leaders on campus and I enjoyed getting different perspectives on things.”

“A key takeaway was the different ways of listening and getting in order to better help our mentee grow and taking peoples diversity to help build connections and ideas on how to better whatever we are trying to do.”
