Coronavirus Response: Student Accessibility Services

Graphic of Corona VirusWe understand that the seriousness of the coronavirus pandemic has had a significant impact on all of us and individuals with disabilities in particular. The University is taking steps to ensure that our community is safe, and students are able to continue their studies and campus activities with needed accommodations. We appreciate the patience, flexibility, and efforts at communication in which all of us are engaged.

  • Students who need to request accommodations specific to COVID-19, including but not limited to accommodations related to wearing a face covering, because of a medical condition or other disability are asked to go through the regular accommodation request process. We have developed a specific UM SAS Documentation Form that students can give their doctor or other appropriate clinicians to get documentation of disability and accommodation needs related to COVID-19. Students requesting accommodations should give our office a call at 207.581.2319 to schedule an appointment with one of our professional staff and fill out our SAS Information Form and return it to um.sas@maine.edu.
  • We have some resources for students related to COVID-19 as well.
  • Faculty can contact us directly with questions and we encourage them to review the information about Extended Time or other Special Access for a Quiz on the CITL website.
  • SAS is in the process of evaluating whether we can safely run the Access Van this fall. Please come back and check our website for updates about the van.

We know that returning to campus this fall is a large concern for many and we encourage checking the UMaine Return to Campus website for updates often.

An information line — 207.581.2681 — is staffed around the clock for general guidance and staff will route specific inquiries to appropriate staff.

Sincerely,
Student Accessibility Services Staff: Sara, Amy, Mandi, Merlin and Joanne.
