Please Note: Once your application is reviewed and approved, a Make the Grade Award equal to the cost of the class will be applied to your student bill at the start of the semester.
Make the Grade Student Success Initiative
The University of Maine is committed to your success and we recognize the challenges many first-year students face in their initial semester. In an effort to increase your academic success and emphasize our continued effort to provide meaningful support to students, we are proud to be a part of the “Make the Grade” Student Success Initiative.
Eligible students who received one F grade in the Fall 2023 semester as a first-time, first-year student will have the opportunity to repeat a course at no tuition cost for up to 4 credits during the 2024 calendar year. You are not required to repeat the same course that the F grade was earned in, although you should consider doing so to improve your overall GPA.
Program Eligibility and Application Process
Students who are eligible for the Make the Grade Student Success Initiative will be notified individually via both an email and a letter sent to the student’s permanent mailing address on file.
You must meet the following criteria to be considered for the opportunity to receive funds to cover a future course:
- You were enrolled full-time (12+ credits) during the Fall 2023 semester as a first-year student
- You were a first-time student in the Fall 2023 semester
- You earned only one F grade in a course (up to 4 credits)
- You must be enrolled full-time in the semester (Spring 2024 and Fall 2024) you wish to use the award. Full-time enrollment is not required for Summer 2024.
- You must complete the online application by the deadline below.
Eligible students will be notified by email and their MaineStreet Message Center.
It is the student’s responsibility to complete the application by the deadlines listed below:
Spring 2024 semester – Friday, January 26, 2024
Summer 2024 semester – Friday, May 3, 2024
Fall 2024 semester – Friday, August 30, 2024
