MUSIC
“There are many wonderful qualities about the Music Education program, but one of the best is the faculty. The way that they work with each other, groups of students and students as individuals sets an amazing example of what it looks like to have a passion for both music and education. They always make themselves available to help out any student. I have never once been made to feel like I couldn’t approach any faculty member with a music, or even a non-music, issue. I have the highest respect for all of our faculty members.” -Kayla Gayton, Music Education ’18

THEATRE
“I think this is a great place for collaboration. In any production that we put on, students play a vital role in the building, producing, and performing of all aspects. We have faculty advisors who guide us along the way and teach us how to be better artists. I had the great opportunity to Co-Technical Direct Godspell and We Have Always Lived in the Castle last year, which really taught me a lot about set building and time management. There are so many opportunities provided to us on all levels: make-up, costume, dance, music, scenic, lighting, sound, acting, directing/managing, run crew, and many other positions. It’s almost impossible not to learn something new here. Though it is a small program, we are growing and doing great things everyday. I’m proud to be a part of the Theater/Dance Division of the SPA program!”

DANCE
“Being a dance minor at UMaine has opened up so many doors for me as a performing artist. By offering such a wide array of classes, I have been able to expand my dance horizons at UMaine. I’ve gotten to know so many wonderful people and work with some amazing teachers who all share thsis passion for dance. Nothing feels more like home than when you get to start and finish your day in the studio 6 days a week.”
