A Message from the Camp Director
Hello all,
It was with heavy hearts that the University of Maine and the School of Performing Arts made the call to cancel MSYM 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It was a tough decision but the correct one, and thus this year marks the first time since the Maine Summer Youth Music program began in 1972 that we have not had the privilege of hosting MSYM on our beautiful campus.
However, I wanted to make sure that MSYM did something this year to help you through the summer months and enrich our campers’ musical lives. This MSYM Online website is a small video library put together from the volunteer effort of UMaine and MSYM faculty. It is a place to go for short instruction on a variety of topics chosen by individual faculty members. The videos are open to all to view and apply to your instrument or voice, with lessons for beginners and experts — just click on the topic you’re interested in, check out the videos available, and check back during the summer as we add more! If there are any additional topics that you would like to see covered or if you’d like to let us know how these video lessons have worked for you, don’t be afraid to reach out to me at cgwhite@maine.edu.
I hope that you find these virtual lessons useful and that Maine Summer Youth Music Camp stays in your mind as we plan a triumphant return in the summer of 2021!
