Alumni Justin Zang to Perform at Carnegie Hall
School of Performing Arts Alumni, Justin Zang, will be performing at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Grammy Award winning composer Eric Whitacre. While at UMaine Justin received his Undergraduate Degree in Vocal Music Education in 2010 as well as his Master’s Degree in Choral Conducting in 2013. He was highly involved with many groups including, University Singers, Maine Steiners, Black Bear Men’s Chorus, Oratorio Society and Opera Workshop. While with University Singers, Justin participated in seven annual recruitment tours, as well as three international tours to Italy, Austria, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
Justin also participated in the UMaine theatrical productions of HAIR! (Claude) and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (Sweeney Todd). During his graduate studies, Justin directed UMaine’s Collegiate Chorale and increased their overall attendance from 35 to 97 singers. Currently, Justin is the acting Manager of Theater Operations at the Collins Center for the Arts and lives in Orono, ME with his wife, Sierra Zang. Since graduating, Justin has performed with choirs at Symphony Hall in Boston, MA and Carnegie Hall in New York, NY. Justin has also directed several District Honors Music Festivals in Maine’s Districts V & VI, and has adjudicated for Maine’s District III festivals for the past 5 years.
The show, The Music of Eric Whitacre, will take place on April 8th at Carnegie Hall in New York City as a part of the Distinguished Concerts International New York Concert Series (DCINY).
