SOE Faculty Andrew Crawley and Graduate Student Sarah Welch shine on The Maine Question Podcast

SOE Assistant Professor Andrew Crawley and graduate student Sarah Welch star in the latest podcast episode of “The Maine Question,” – What impact is COVID-19 having on tourism and the economy?  Ron Lisnet engages with Dr. Andrew Crawley and Sarah Welch to learn more about their research on the impacts of COVID-19 on Maine’s economy and future. The podcast discussion builds on the rapid-response work Dr. Crawley, Sarah, and other students in ECO527 conducted with the State Economist’s Office last semester to develop forecasts of COVID-19 impacts on Maine’s economy and inform prospects for Maine’s economic recovery. As part of Dr. Crawley’s ECO527 course, graduate students created five models to evaluate potential changes in tourism spending, travel-related spending, cruise ship spending, state revenues and overall sectoral output and to assess prospects for economic recovery. SOE applauds the innovative and responsive work of Dr. Crawley, Sarah Welch, and other students. Fabulous to see econonomics expertise in action and strong collaborative work between the SOE community and the state.
