JOB OVERVIEW
The Hybrid Learning Resident Director (HL RD) is a live-in professional position that provides direct services such as
personal counseling as well as developmental, cultural, and educational programming to students. The HL RD
coordinates and promotes a wide range of entertainment, cultural, recreational, and educational programs, as well as
campus-wide events to enhance the engagement of the entire student population. The position is responsible for
participating in the overall planning and management of the residence hall system, including the daily operations of the
recreational facilities and residence halls. The HL RD will act as the on-call administrator for after-hour concerns and
crises.
POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS
 Assists with interviewing, hiring, and training, and counseling Resident Advisors (RAs) on campus.
 Assists in developing a community atmosphere in the residence halls through programming and fair judicial
practices.
 Educates and enforces the housing policies as outlined in the Hybrid Learning Student Handbook.
 Works with the Hybrid Learning Dean of Students (or designee) to contribute to an on-call system of 24/7
after-hours coverage for concerns and crises, including but not limited to, room searches and after-hours health
concerns.
 Conducts residence hall rounds in the evenings.
 Coordinates programming with other student services and academic services.
 Responsible for cross training student services functions as directed.
 Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the institution’s policies and procedures and
applicable laws and regulations.
 Establishes and maintains plans for areas of managerial responsibility that includes goals, measurable outcomes,
assessment plans, budgets, timelines, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Manage resources in accordance
with governance policies and in alignment with the College’s Strategic Plan.
 Processes information and weighs evidence in complex cases to make sound decisions that balance student
safety, collaboration with other Units, and institutional priorities.
 Uses institutional data governance systems to maintain accurate records; coordinates with other Units and
provides timely information in response to requests.
 Adapts to and adopts new technologies to improve communication and effectiveness as opportunities arise.
 Serves on college task groups as assigned and works with groups as necessary to complete job responsibilities.
 Supports efforts related to housing and retention of student residents.
 Assists in the preparation for the upcoming terms by assigning students to residence hall rooms; planning and
delivering RA training; making decisions on additional student occupant placements; conducting damage
assessments and furniture ordering requests.

 Acts as On-Duty Residence Life staff as assigned.
 Assists in the preparation of housing damage assessments each term.
 Assists in the provision of housing accommodation requests through the ADA process when they are brought
by the Vice President of Hybrid Learning or their designees. Brings requests with resource implications to the
Hybrid Learning Dean of Students for review and approval by the Vice President of Hybrid Learning.
 Assists the Hybrid Learning Dean of Students with judicial proceedings and Title IX inquires.
 Assists in the planning and delivery of new student orientations, including training student orientation leaders.
 Provides counseling, mentoring, and advising to students and appropriately refers students to additional
resources.
 Supports student event planners and student groups planning activities through training and consultation on
such issues as contracting, budgeting, staffing, risk/liability and general safe practices.
 Coordinates and manages intramural sport activities and provides support for student clubs.
 Provides support on curricular and co-curricular student trips and excursions, including overnight trips to other
locations.
 Supports communication and training regarding Title IX and serve as Title IX recorder.
 Pro-actively communicates challenges, successes, and failures with leadership.
 Other duties as assigned.

Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as education, behavioral/social sciences, counseling, or student
development.

• 3 – 5 years of job-related experience in student life.
• Good knowledge of group dynamics and educational and learning processes.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, administration, faculty, staff, students
and off-campus community partners.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
• Crisis intervention skills or ability to learn (self-harm, sexual assault, substance abuse, etc.).
• Ability to function effectively within a matrix organizational structure, maintaining open lines of
communication while being discreet, courteous and well poised.
WORK SCHEDULE / AVAILABILITY REQUIREMENTS
This position is required to live on campus for which room and board are provided in addition to salary. Primary on call
24/7 administrator; works with the Hybrid Learning Dean of Students to provide coverage in the Student Services
Center and afterhours crises or emergencies. Work schedules varies seasonally and must be available variably during the
day, evenings, and weekends. Works extended hours as needed. Must be flexible and cooperative in fulfilling
responsibilities and meeting the college’s needs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job is regularly required to sit, stand and walk as well as talk and hear. The
employee must have the ability to lift, move and/or carry equipment and supplies up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities
required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust
focus. Use of either hand for repetitive movements such as grasping, grasping and turning, and fine manipulation.
Often required to walk across campus and ascend and descend stairs to attend meetings and during tours.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work is performed in the office or out and around the campus buildings and grounds. The noise level in the work
environment is usually mild to moderate. Exposure to changes of temperature or humidity 1-33% of the time.
POSITIONS AT UNITY COLLEGE ARE DEPENDENT ON THEIR VIABILITY AND AN

 Residential enrollment is above 350 students.
 There continues to be demand for the Hybrid Learning residential experience.
 Hybrid Learning is generating a minimum of 36,000 credit hours annually.
 The institution has a minimum annual $35M operating budget with a net positive revenue margin between 20-
30%.
 The Hybrid Learning SEBU exists.
